The first Rainbow Pride flag was made in 1951 by Gilbert Baker, a gay rights activist, as a way to celebrate the gay community. Originally the rainbow flag had 8 stripes, over time when certain dye colors were hard to find the flag was adjusted to only 6 stripes, each having a separate meaning: Red for Life, Orange for Healing, Yellow for Sunlight, Green for Nature, Indigo for Serenity and Violet for Spirit.
